Mactan Island Movenpick – the first in the Philippines to receive Green Globe

Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu has become the first Philippine hotel to receive Green Globe certification.

The Cebu property was redesigned to reduce energy usage, by adopting design aspects using natural ventilation and daylight elements. The design allows the property to minimise heat absorption, whilst using natural daylight for lighting purposes.

Low energy LED lighting is used throughout the property. Other energy, and money saving implementations include a regulated air conditioning temperature of 24 degrees celsius, and keycard sensors that turn off power as the guest leaves their room. Swimming pool water is also sustainably collected from rainwater. Guests of Movenpick Hotel Mactan Cebu are also invited to participate in the hotel’s sustainable initiatives.

Situated on the beautiful shoreline of Mactan Island, the hotel aids its natural environment by performing a beach clean up four times per year, which is supported by its staff. The clean up assists in life saving marine operations. Many thousands of sea birds are entangled in debris each year, with many of the victims being affected by loss of limbs, or inability to swim and feed. Many of these birds either drown or starve. A variety of other marine life are also affected by the debris, including turtles, seals, dolphins, sharks and even whales.
