ITC Maurya, New Delhi has been awarded the ‘Best Eco Friendly Hotel’ at India’s National Tourism Awards.
ITC Maurya has received the accolade for its commitment to the environment and sustainable approach to luxury. The hotel has introduced sustainable approaches to water conservation, energy, recycling and minimising its carbon emissions. Adding to its green credentials, the Platinum rated ITC Maurya is the largest LEED certified hotel in the world.
The hotel’s sustainable track record has spanned over the last two decades, and continues to add and make environmentally aware improvements. ITC Maurya was the first hotel in the world to install Paraboloid solar concentrators.
The environmentally sustainable hotel uses more than 50 per cent either local or recycled ongoing consumables. Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified wood is used for refurbishments and renovations, and over 30 per cent of the food and beverage used in the hotel is harvested and processed locally within a radius of 160 kilometres of the property. ITC Maurya also reuses or recycles over 99 per cent of its solid wage through recycling programs or composting.
