The Peninsula Tokyo has added its first Tesla Model S luxury electric vehicle (EV) to its guest hired chauffeured service fleet.
The Peninsula is the first hotel in Japan to include an EV in its fleet line-up.
The family-size premium Tesla EV is finished in green and gold, matching the Peninsula’s 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II and other fleet additions.
Equipped with an 85-kilowatt-hour battery with lithium-ion cells arranged for optimum energy density, thermal management and safety, the Peninsula model cruises at a top speed of 200 kilometres per hour, achieving 0 to 100 kilometres an hour in just 5.6 seconds and delivering a driving range of over 500 kilometres on a single charge. Regenerative braking technology recaptures energy when the car slows or heads downhill, and smart air suspension automatically adjusts stiffness for a smooth ride no matter the road surface or amount of cargo stored.
The new Tesla will be recharged onsite at the Peninsula Tokyo.
Hotel guests using the Tesla for travel will be greeted with tan Nappa leather seats, glossy obeche wood trim, ambient cabin lighting, and be surrounded by high-fidelity sound from 12 speakers including an eight-inch subwoofer. The Tesla is equipped with a dedicated iPhone and iPad mini conveniently set in the rear centre console, giving guests complete connectivity and fingertip control over their schedule, contacts and communications.
