International Women’s Day has been celebrated this week by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Asia Pacific with the announcement of a strategic roadmap, which aims to empower female associates, and by signing the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP), a pledge for the advancement of women in the workplace and community.

The signing of the Women’s Empowerment Principles further strengthens Starwood as an equal opportunity employer as we continue initiatives to support the surfacing of female talent and leaders.” said Stephen Ho, President, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Asia Pacific, in a company release.
The WEP comprises of seven principles for businesses, offering guidelines on how to empower women in the workplace and community. Some of these principles include establishing high-level corporate leadership for gender equality; and promoting education, training and professional development for women.
The company will expand existing mentoring schemes in the Asia Pacific including the Women’s Initiative Network in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. In China, Starwood will run a Careers Day in April and in June will run a Starwood Careers Month which will focus on recruitment, internal talent growth and development.
