Environmental and CSR efforts implemented by hotels operating in New South Wales were recognised and celebrated this week at the Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) NSW Awards.
Judging for the Outstanding Community Service and Achievement category looked at the commitments from seven hotels including Courtyard by Marriott Sydney North Ryde, Crowne Plaza Terrigal, Mercure Hotel Sydney, Parkroyal Parramatta, Rydges Parramatta and The Westin Sydney, with the top gong going to The Sydney Boulevard Hotel.
The winner for Best Environmental Practices for a Metropolitan Hotel was Mercure Hotel Sydney, pitted against Holiday Inn Darling Harbour, Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel, The Star and The Westin Sydney. The environmental award was the second for Mercure at the ceremony with the hotel receiving the TAA Superior hotel of the year 2015 award as well.
In country New South Wales, The Novotel Newcastle Beach, Crowne Plaza Terrigal, Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley and Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley were in the Best Environmental Practices for a Regional Hotel category competition mix, with Wolgan Valley emerging the award winner. The luxury Blue Mountains-based resort also won the Regional Environmental award in 2014.
