Santa and friends kick off the Stars of Christmas

The Mandarin Orchard Singapore will celebrate Christmas this year with its annual community charity event, the Stars of Christmas.

The Stars of Christmas event is a gift giving program that receives gift donations from guests of Mandarin Orchard Singapore, the general public and employees of numerous aid agencies and program partners, including OUE Ltd, Chrysler Jeep Automotive and Singapore-based Harley-Davidson distributor, Komoco Motorcycles.

The Stars of Christmas is now in its fifth year, and this year the program will also include a new program addition called Community Chest, a fund raising and engagement arm of the National Council of Social Service.

With the assistance of these and other groups, the Stars of Christmas program links donated Christmas gifts with star tree decorations, which indicate the name, age and gender of the receiver of the gift on a Christmas tree in the main lobby of the Mandarin Orchard Singapore.

Gift recipients, together with their parents, siblings and caregivers will be hosted to a Christmas lunch at Mandarin Orchard Singapore on December 11, which will finish with Santa giving out the donated presents.

On December 13, a “Toy Run” will end the Stars of Christmas. The Toy Run will feature a fleet of volunteers in Jeep vehicles and Harley-Davidson motorcycles lining front of Mandarin Gallery in Orchard Road, and being flagged off in the morning to deliver hundred of donated Christmas gifts to hospitals and homes.

Thio Gim Hock, CEO of OUE said, “Christmas is a time for giving. At OUE, we are pleased to celebrate this Christmas tradition for the fifth year running. Stars of Christmas could not have been possible without the support of our donors, volunteers and partners, who share our ongoing commitment to giving back to the community.”

“We welcome this opportunity to be part of such a meaningful endeavour,” said Gerald Seng, General Manager of Chrysler Jeep Automotive Singapore.

“Through the Stars of Christmas community programme, we are able to contribute towards bringing a message of hope this Christmas to children and their families that need it most,” he said.
