With a growing number of sustainably-minded hotels adopting recyclable key cards, the Four Seasons Hotel Austin in the US has taken the move one step further with the unveiling of its new 100 per cent biodegradable room key cards.

The hotel is the first in the state to use a wooden key card, and the only Zero Waste hotel in Texas.

“We are thrilled to be able to introduce the biodegradable key cards and as the very first property in the state, it truly signifies our ongoing commitment to support sustainability,” says General Manager Rob Hagelberg.

“The stylish wooden keys also compliment the overall enhancement aesthetic of the new luxury guest rooms featuring rich design details and thoughtful finishes.

The biodegradable cards are made from certified sustainable Nordic birch wood and feature a guitar referencing the music scene the city is famous.

The Four Seasons Hotel Austin strives to achieve its motto, “reduce, reuse, recycle”. The hotel uses in-room compost, recycling and rubbish containers to encourage sustainable practices by hotel guests and employees.
