InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced new Corporate Responsibility (CR) targets for 2013-2017, continuing IHG’s focus on change in three core CR programs.
Through a philosophy of responsible business, IHG will deliver positive change through its programs – Green Engage, Shelter in a Storm and Academy.
IHG Green Engage is an online system that reduces negative environmental impact by tracking energy, water, carbon and the management of waste along with associated costs. More than 200 Green Solutions are included in Green Engage allowing hotels to achieve energy and environmental reductions of up to 25 per cent. Moving forward, IHG has created a target to reduce carbon footprint and water usage per occupied room by 12 per cent during the 2013-2017 period.
With a view to improving the lives of local communities, guests and colleagues in times of need, IHG implemented the IHG Shelter in a Storm program. The new targets will see IHG continue to provide financial support, vital supplies and accommodation to those affected by disaster. During 2012, IHG’s Shelter Fund raised $545,000 for those in need and responded to ten disasters across six countries. New 2013-2017 targets will aim to contribute a total of $10 million to communities through monetary donations and in-kind support including funds through the Shelter in a Storm program.
IHG Academy will continue to drive up employment and skills development within local communities. To date, IHG Academy has implemented over 250 grams worldwide and provided training or employment to over 10,000 people since it was established in 2006. Within the 2013-2017 period, IHG will endeavour to provide skills and improved employability to 20,000 people through IHG Academy.
