Hilton Worldwide has partnered with a ‘Modern Manners Expert’ to look at etiquette, with a particular view towards manners whilst interacting with the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community.
Steven Petrow, an award-winning journalist, author and LGBT expert, will partner with Hilton as an advisor and advocate on inclusive marketing and outreach efforts.
“Steven will help extend Hilton’s already rich history of welcoming the world to our hotels and advocating for inclusion and equality,” said Jeff Diskin, executive vice president, commercial services, Hilton Worldwide.
“Conrad Hilton’s vision for the company was to ‘fill the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality’ – and that still remains true for all our guests.”
Mr Petrow has been undertaking various workshops and interactive initiatives as part of his work with Hilton. This month, Petrow hosted a live Twitter chat called Modern Manners for Weddings which gives insight into hosting weddings for same-sex couples. Petrow also attended the GLAAD Media Awards, an awards event that recognises media for an unbiased and accurate representation of the LGBT community, as part of his partnership with Hilton.
“I’ve spent the last 15 years helping people navigate situations that may be new to them,” said Petrow.
“Partnering with Hilton as their Modern Manners Expert is an opportunity for me to help make an impact and help shape the way all guests are welcomed,” he added.
Hilton has scored 100 per cent on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2014 and 2015 Corporate Equality Index, and has collaborated with LGBT organisations including the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA).
