Conrad Macao, Cotai Central has been named the World’s Leading Green Hotel at the World Travel Awards held recently in Doha, Qatar.

Mark McWhinnie, senior VP of Operations at Sands Cotai Central said, “Conrad Macao was honoured to have been named Asia’s Leading Green Hotel and China’s Best Green Hotel only two months ago.”

“To now be recognised as the World’s Leading Green Hotel is phenomenal, and while Conrad Macao is extremely proud of its awards for service, quality and luxury, the entire team is very pleased to have their efforts in this area recognised in this way,” added Mr McWhinnie.

Sustainable implementations at Conrad Macao include the increased observance of the once annual Earth Hour event, to a semi-monthly participation, a challenge taken up by the hotel’s international family.

Other moves to reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint include the introduction of energy-saving lighting and smart monitoring, and the recycling of plastic, paper, metal, glass and soap. Recycling of food waste has also been established, together with the recycling of 200kg of cooking oil.

The Conrad Macao has achieved a further 19 high profile accolades during its 20 months since opening, bringing its total to 20 awards and inclusions in the same number of months.
